Find a Specific Newspaper or Newspaper Article

If you know you need to find articles in a specific newspaper, start with a Periodical Title search in the ALICE catalog. This will tell you whether the Libraries has a subscription to that newspaper and where it is located. Access to the newspaper may be online, in-print, or on microfilm, depending on the newspaper and the date.

If the title you need is not available, ask a librarian for assistance. Newspapers may also be available via OhioLINK or Interlibrary Loan

The following pages show you how to access both current and historical local, national and international newspapers.

Search for Newspaper Articles on a Research Topic

If you need to look for article on a particular topic, search many newspapers at once, or analyze the coverage of a topic in the news, try searching a newspaper article database.

Current Newspapers in Print

Recent print issues of some American and international newspapers are on 4th floor shelves by the computers and public restrooms on that floor. A few of the most popular titles are kept at the 4th floor Service Desk. Some print editions of newspapers from countries in Southeast Asia are located on the 1st floor.

Historic Newspapers

Access to historic newspapers will depend on the newspaper and the time frame that you need to access. A number of newspapers are available online in full text or in page images. The pages for Ohio University and Athens, state, national or international newspapers also have information on accessing historical newspapers for those regions.

For some historic newspapers, you may need to use an index to identify the article you need and then use the Periodical Title search in the ALICE catalog to locate the full text in print or on microform.
