Getting Copies of Theses and Dissertations
If you know the author’s name and exact title of a thesis or dissertation, give Google a try. Often you will be able to find the thesis or dissertation on a server somewhere.
If the thesis or dissertation you want is not available electronically or if you want a paper copy, follow these steps:
- Start by trying the title you need on ALICE. We rarely buy dissertations completed at other institutions, but it doesn’t hurt to try!
- If you don’t find it on ALICE, click on ALICE’s button to see if anyone in the state owns the dissertation.
- If you’d like to try to borrow from a library outside the state, use our ILLiad Interlibrary Loan system.
- Copies of dissertations and theses may be acquired using ProQuest Dissertations and Theses database. Electronic copies of dissertations completed at Ohio University since 1997 are free. Otherwise, prices range from $28 for a PDF download to $59 for hardbound paper copies. The best value is usually the $38 option for the unbound paper copy which is delivered by priority mail.
