The Center for International Collections (CIC), on the first floor of Alden Library, will host an exhibit by artist Seoun Som beginning March 15, with an opening event for the exhibit to be held the same day from 4:30 to 6:30pm.

Som, who has a BFA from Youngstown State and an MFA from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, will display a series of photographs in the CIC as part of an exhibit he calls “Devoid of Presence.” Som describes the exhibit as “quiet and contemplative. Printed photographs on sheer fabric pieces perform a metaphor of the “space” between the physical  and spiritual; the sacred and the profane; the dichotomy of life after death; transcendence; and east meeting west.”

The opening coincides with the 5th annual Khmer Studies Forum, hosted by Ohio University’s Center for Southeast Asian Studies. Ohio University is one of only a few in the United States to provide instruction in the Khmer language and to have a Southeast Asian Studies program.
