All items on sale are donations made to the Friends’ organization. Donor generosity increases each year, making the content of this sale quite diverse.

The sale represents a number of items from different subjects with a whole section dedicated to Ohio-related works. Subjects include social science, economics, education, children’s books, self-help, travel, cooking, art and many more. A number of foreign books on Southeast Asia are also included in the sale.

Books are not the only things you will find here. Audiobooks, CDs, DVDs and even videodiscs are also available.

For the most part, books cost $1, 25¢ for paperbacks. More valuable items like collections, art books, and the digital items vary in price. The presale is scheduled for Thursday, November 8, where items will be priced as double the cost.

The proceeds support the Ohio University Libraries’ facilities and acquisitions, as well as intern positions, speakers, and much needed gifts, to name a few. These gifts are earmarked to enhance learning in the Libraries for Ohio University students. The money is also used to fund the Friends of the Libraries student scholarship, awarded annually to three student employees of the Libraries.

“In its little way it gives financial support for the operation of the libraries,” said Art Woolley, associate professor of English emeritus and chair of the Friends’ book sale.

Woolley is the principle coordinator of the sale. He dedicates much of his time sorting through hundreds of boxes of donations, narrowing his selections for the sale based on assumed consumer preference.

This book sale would not be able to operate without the help of student organizations, Connect and Phi Gamma Nu, community members who man the sales desk, and of course, Woolley himself.
