When alumni, students and faculty flock to campus for Homecoming Weekend, they will not just be going to the football game or parade—many will also be heading to Alden Library.

Ohio University Libraries will have 19 tables full of archival historical materials that showcase the history of the University, especially student life. The display will feature student newspapers, photographs, yearbooks, scrapbooks and student handbooks, among other memorabilia.

Current students have been showing an increased interest in University traditions and history in recent years, boosting popularity of the homecoming exhibit. In response to this, the display will now open on Wednesday, Oct. 5, giving students and alumni more time to see the materials before the events of the weekend.

Bill Kimok, university archivist and records manager, said that because the Libraries are such an integral part of student life, it is appropriate that University Archives takes part in the Homecoming celebrations.

“Since the library at one time or another was part of virtually every OHIO student’s life, it makes good sense for an annual Homecoming display of this magnitude to be our annual contribution to the Homecoming celebration and experience,” he said.

The exhibit is open in Alden Library on the fourth floor from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 5-7 and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 8.
